Feeling experimental? Why not start making your own dog food at home. As humans we spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing delicious meals for our families. Why not treat your precious pooch to a meal too? Little known fact: Certain blenders can also blend ingredients for homemade dog food!
Even though high-quality doggy treats and pellets have enough nutrients and vitamins to ensure a shiny coat and digestive system, you can still treat your best friend to a homemade meal. Whether you want to try some of our home recipes or purchase fresh dog food from a shop, the nutritional and taste value is incomparable.
Before we share our favorite recipes, it’s important to understand the general daily recommended amount of food before you let your pup over indulge. You’ll have to adapt the feeding amount depending on your dog’s weight and breed.
As a general rule, for every 12 pounds of doggy weight, a cup of food is necessary per day. So a 25-pound dog will have to consume two cups per day (100 grams in the morning and 100 grams in the evening). A 100 pounds dog will need about 8 cups of food per day.

Favorite Fresh Dog Food Ideas
The general thinking is that within each dog meal there should be 25% produce, 25% cooked carbohydrates, and 50% cooked protein. Here is a list of some of our favorite dog food ideas you can prepare conveniently at home:
1. Turkey Delight
This meal is the perfect balance between nutrition and deliciousness. For a 400-gram meal you will need:
— 100 g of brown rice
— 100 g of vegetables (spinach, zucchini, peas, and carrots)
— 200 g of ground turkey
Cook the brown rice in water. Steam the veggies and cook the ground turkey in a pan using olive oil. Throw everything together and viola, a delicious meal.
2. Doggy Delicious
This recipe is perfect for a small doggy and provides enough munchies to last for 2 meals each day for about 2 weeks. You will need:
— 2 pounds of ground pork
— 2.5 pounds of ground beef
— 1 large apple (without the core)
— 1 large sweet potato (peeled)
— 2 large carrots
— 1 cup of kale
— 1 cup of brown or white rice
— 1.5 cups of water
— 0.5 cups of blueberries
Cut the meat (you can replace the beef and/or pork with either turkey or chicken, just as you prefer) into small cubes. Braise the meat; it should not be cooked completely through. Peel and chop all the vegetables and add it into the mix. Add water and allow the mixture to cook and simmer for 3-4 hours on a low heat. Once everything is cooked through, add the blueberries.
3. Peanut Butter Treats
Even though we’d love to give our dogs human snacks like candies and chocolate, it is a known fact that the high Xylitol and caffeine levels within them are toxic. Click here for a full list of foods that are toxic for your pup.
You can still treat your furry friend to a delicious homemade snack made with healthy and non-toxic ingredients. One of those snacks is the peanut butter treat. To make it you’ll need:
— 2 cups of flour
— 2 eggs
— 0.5 cups of raw peanut butter
Mix all the ingredients together until it forms a smooth mixture. Add a little bit of water and mix again. Keep adding water until the mixture is wet and easy to roll out like cookie dough.
Once you’ve rolled it out you can use fun cookie cutters in the shape of dog bones or bow ties. Place it on a baking tray and bake at 180 degrees for 20 minutes. Let it cool down and place it in the doggy treats jar.
4. Chicken Treats
— 0.5 cups of cooked rice
— 1 cup of cooked finely diced chicken
— 1 tablespoon of parsley
— 1 egg
— 3 tablespoons of rice flour
At Wadav.com you will find shops with the best Dog food discounts.
Mix all the ingredients together until it forms a smooth mash-like substance. Add into silicone molds and bake for 20-30 minutes at 180 degrees. Allow to cool before removing from molds and serving. You can store these treats in the freezer for up to 3 months.
